Here’s a link to an article on Jezebel.com about several instances of domestic violence by women against men. The article itself is not very well written but the comments are interesting and follow the themes I hope we will be discussing tomorrow.

The pizza and veggie platters have been ordered for Monday’s presentation. Just a reminder:

Domestic Abuse: a Male Perspective.

May 7th 11:15-12:15, W124

Mike will be hosting a presentation about domestic abuse, with a focus on Men’s Rights. He will be discussing the limited options men are faced with when reporting sexual or domestic abuse, the lack of protection offered from abusers by both law enforcement and the public, and the way male genital mutilation is discussed in the media.

There will be video and discussion.

There will be pizza and snacks provided by XYG.

(several teachers may be offering extra credit for attendance – if you’re not sure, just ask!)

I would like to hear your opinions. I’m glad to see that the mainstream media is addressing this growing issue, please let me know what you think.
Mike

Men Can Stop Rape is pleased to announce the launch of WHERE DO YOU STAND?, a new bystander intervention campaign for college men.  WHERE DO YOU STAND? positively portrays young men as vital allies and invites all men to consider their own stance on men preventing sexism and sexual assault… WHERE DO YOU STAND? campaign materials present compelling images of college men role modeling specific intervention strategies.”

I couldn’t sleep this morning, and as I was reading Jezebel I came across an interesting article about Barstool Sports’ “blackout tour” party being held at Boston College the same night as a Take Back the Night event.

Barstool Sports is a blog that, among other things, “perpetuates negative ideas of what it means to be a “man” through degrading women and normalizing rape culture.”

There is a petition to stop it.

I’d like to hope that the presence and support of a club like XYG would stop our student activity fee money from financing a party like this, but I don’t know.

I wonder if we could count protesting it as community engagement hours…
